Sister Beth Niederpruem
Director of Center for Joy
Niagara Falls, New York
A recent newspaper article stated Sister Beth Niederpruem shepherds inner-city kids.Sister firmly feels that they need ‘education through mentoring’. Each child is treated as an individual and they come after school for help with their homework and lessons on life. Tutoring is for children up to the fifth grade and is provided by students from Niagara University. Children and mentors must apply to join.
A summer camp is provided for children with assistance from with foster grandparents who volunteer through the Health Association of Niagara County. There is a weekly program for teens covering life skills such as: table etiquette, how to travel to other cities, and how to get prepared for the working world.
The space rented from St Peter’s Episcopal Church is too small and Sister Beth hopes to obtain grants to purchase a nearby building. Her belief is that success will be that these children and teens “complete their education.”
