The Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale, Pennsylvania have been committed to building and managing housing for senior adults in southwestern Pennsylvania for decades.

This tradition continues with Alverno Apartments, located on the beautiful Motherhouse campus at the corner of Hawthorne and Evergreen Roads in Millvale.  Apartments at Alverno are one-bedroom and offer independent living/housing opportunities to senior adults who are age 62 and older.  Each of the 52 apartments are 530 square feet in size and include a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.

In addition to the 53 comfortable units, amenities at Alverno include a beautifully decorated lobby, laundry area, community kitchen, community room and electronic security in both the public areas and each apartment.

Alverno Apartments take their name from a mountain in Tuscany, Italy called Mount La Verna.  This holy mountain was given to St. Francis by Count Orlando of Chiusi in Casentino, Italy in 1213.  Alverno was very dear to St. Francis and a special place for him to pray in solitude.
